Special Ceremony for National Adoption Month

On November 19, 2014, the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services will join social services districts and agencies across the country in celebrating National Adoption Month by hosting a reception for 4 Cattaraugus County children who will join forever families through adoption.  A special ceremony will be held in the morning at Cattaraugus County Family Court to complete the adoptions with Hon. Michael Nenno presiding.

In 2012, New York State celebrated 2,178 children in foster care finding permanent families through adoption.  The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services facilitated 17 adoptions in 2013 and 20 so far in 2014.  Despite these efforts, there are many more children waiting to be adopted.  National Adoption Month is a time to not only celebrate the children and families that found each other through adoption, but also a time to publicize and re-emphasize the urgent need to increase the number of adoptions for those children awaiting permanent homes.

The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services acknowledges the invaluable work being done by foster/adoptive families, our dedicated staff, advocates and professionals and Family Court personnel to facilitate the adoptions of children in foster care.

The Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services is always looking for potential foster and/or adoptive homes.  If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about foster care or adoption, please contact Adoption Caseworker and Home Finder Kayla Chesebro at 701-3664 or call the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services general number at 373-8070.
